Making Resume Quickly and Easily
Your CV (sometimes “CV” called) when you apply for a job is the most important tool. Whether you are educated, or how much experience – or even interview – if you go back to your weak or well written, having trouble finding work you want to be.
It’s time to work on your resume is important to really take. This page contains some tips and information as possible about how good your resume is to advise.
The purpose of a resume:
Your resume is a marketing tool. It needs to be pointed out:
- That you are hired
- How do you meet the requirements of the job and the organization
- That you have the right qualifications and education
- That you have the right experience and skills
- That you have the appropriate level of professionalism to the job
How long should my resume be?
There is no set length for a resume. A resume varies in length depending on your experience and education. If you have not worked a lot before, one or two pages of the best, but three pages anything if you’ve got a lot of studies and work behind you.
Make sure you do not pad your resume. If your resume is only one page, as long as it is presented properly, it may get better results than the two-page resume is full of unnecessary information.

How should I book my resume?
Generally, it is always good to present the information on your resume in this order:
- Contact details
- opening statement
- List of key skills
- List of technical skills / software
- personal attributes overview / career
- educational qualifications
- history work / volunteer / work placement
- Reference / referee
Not everything in this list should appear on your resume every time, and the order may change from application to application.
The most important thing is to get the most useful information at first. For example, if you study history are not specifically related to the job, put it at the end of your resume, behind the job-related information.

Do I need to change my resume for every application?
You need to customize your resume for each job application so as to respond to the specific requirements of the job you are applying.
You may not need a lot of change, but you need to make your opening statement, your key skills, and personal attributes you all respond to the needs of the role, based on the job ad (if there is one) and the research you’ve done on the job.
You also have to adjust your resume to show how your work experience specifically meets the needs of the job you are applying.
How to customize your resume
How can you adjust your resume include:
- Using your opening statement to link the experience and education to the organization and the job requirements
- Listing your key skills most relevant first
- Including examples of achievement that meets the requirements of the job advertised
- Including specific keywords and phrases that are relevant throughout your resume (see “Keywords” in “What’s Your Resume Must Include”, below)
What your resume should include
There are some things that every resume should be on it. Check out the resume on resume templates and cover pages Sample letters to get an idea of what each piece will look like.
Make sure you include your name, email address and contact phone number on your resume. You do not have to include your home address, although there may be some situations when doing so would be a good idea.
Do not include your contact details in the header of your resume. recruitment software sometimes has difficulty reading information in the header or footer, so it’s a good idea to avoid altogether header.
You can put your contact details in the footer of your resume, but if you do, you must make sure they are in the main body of the document.
An opening statement is a summary of who you are, where you have studied and / or worked, and what you bring to the job. It should be long and about six lines written in the first person without a personal reference (ie, do not say “I did this” – says “Do this” instead).
Opening statements should begin with one sentence about who you are and what you bring to the job, and then describe the skills and attributes do you have that suit you the job.

Key skills and strengths
Your resume should include a list of between 10 and 15 skills that connects your experience with the job you are applying.
If you are applying for a job advertised, either advertising or position descriptions can provide a list of the skills and experience necessary to do the job. It can also provide a list of “desired” skill and experience. a list of key skills and strengths necessary to respond to all the items on the list of “essential” and many items as possible on the list of “desirable”.
When compiling this list, think of things you’ve done or learned to do as a part of:
- Your job is
- Your Studies
- Work placements you have done
- Every volunteer you have done
Technical skills / software
This is a short list of names of software or technology that you know how to use. Examples include:
- word processing or spreadsheet software
- Programming language
- Tools (for example, cash registers, EFTPOS)
- personal attributes
- If you do not have much work experience, personal attributes list could be another way to show that you are the right person for the job.
Things that could be included in this section may include ways you can show that you are reliable, honest, reliable or quick to learn new things. See page Employability skills us to see some things that employers typically seek.
You can include three to five personal attributes, but make sure you do not include them instead of your key skills.
History of education
Education history you just have to show your highest level of education. You do not need to include your results, but show them to prove how good you are fit for the job.
If you can, you should also include some of the points list for academic achievement (eg, school or classroom captaincies, awards it has won, or the group you are already a part of).
When providing your employment history, starting with your most recent job and go backward from there. Give the position title and the date you worked there.
If you do not have a job, you can use other things to show your experience, including:
- work experience you’ve done through the school
- work placement or internship you have done through the university or TAFE
- volunteer work you have done
For each job provides a list of things that you achieved while in the work, and you made a significant contribution to the organization. Make sure that these achievements and contributions in accordance with the key skills and strengths listed earlier on your resume.
Reference / referee
Your resume should list two positive people who can recommend you as an employee. Ideally, your reference will be people who you have worked with before. Provide the name, the title of their position, and in a way that they can be contacted.
A testimonial is another good way to prove that the skills and experience is what employers are looking for.
Get testimonials can be as easy as asking colleagues, teachers or previous employers to write a few sentences about you. Ideally, the person you get testimonials from also is included in your reference.
You can include testimonials you get a piece of the history of education or employment history / voluntary / your job.
Usually, it is enough to insert one or two testimonials in your résumé. Any more than two may be too much.
Many recruitment agencies use software that scans applications for keywords and phrases. Applications that do not use the right keywords tend to be automatically rejected.

To make sure your resume has the right keywords and phrases, see job openings and make a list of words and phrases that it uses. If you do not have a written job advertisements to refer, you can use a job search engine to find another ad for the same job and see what kind of ad keywords used.
Once you have a list to work from, start adding words and phrases for your resume. a good place to add keywords include:
- opening statement
- a list of key skills
- Your education history
- Your employment history
What NOT to put on your resume
Here are some things that do not belong on your resume. Note that there may be situations when including the following information indicates that you are fit for the job. If that’s the case, including information that would be a good idea.
You do not have to provide any personal or private information on your resume. There is no benefit to be gained from giving information that can be used to generalize about you as a potential employee.
Your resume should not include:
- date of birth
- Your gender
- Your address
- Any disease or disability
- Your health status
Exceptions to this may be possible when providing this information will give you the benefit application (for example, if the employer is looking for someone young, or female applicant). In this situation, consider including such information if you think it will strengthen your application.
Typos or factual errors
Send a resume or cover letter with spelling errors will ensure you do not get an interview. You should check spelling before you send your resume, but you also have to get someone else to read it too and check for errors you may have missed.
Check everything you put on your resume. If you mention the name of the company, make sure you get it right. If you mention the name of the place that has worked before, make sure you get the right one. Error on resume worse than typos.
You should also consider getting your resume noticed by someone professional.
Pictures and graphics
Do not include a picture or a photo on your resume. Not only images are not preferred by recruiters and HR professionals, they also can create problems with the recruitment software.
Content in header
Many resumes only show the applicant’s name and contact details in the document header. Some recruitment software can not read the information in the header and footer. If you enter the information in the header and footer of your resume, make sure you include it in the body of the document as well.
Stick to easy to read font and format. This makes it easier for recruiters to review your resume. It also means that any recruitment software reviews your resume can easily read the information. a good font to be used, among others:
- Century gothic
Do not use the large header to break a part of your resume. Use font 10- or 11-point to your main content and a maximum of 12 or 14-point for the header.
The information in the table
Some resume templates present the information in the table to help with the layout, but some recruitment software can not read table. Your resume should only be formatted using line breaks and simple formatting (like setting multiple columns on a page).
PDF version of your resume
Some recruitment software can not read PDF. Unless the job ad specifically says to give your resume as a .pdf, you should always just send your resume in word format (.doc or .docx).
Reviewing your resume
Having someone else review your resume is very important. Make sure you use someone who is really going to tell you if they think something is not right. People you could ask include:
- former employer
- career guidance counselor
- parent or guardian
