installing windows 7 from USB in Laptop and Desktop

Have you always wanted a copy of Windows that you can take with you wherever you go, to use it on a computer you want? You can: here’s how to install a portable version of Windows 8 on a USB hard drive that can carry everywhere.

The Enterprise version of Windows 8 has a called Windows To Go feature that allows you to install a portable version of Windows on a flash drive “certified”. Unfortunately, most of us do not have the Enterprise edition of Windows 8, or certified flash drive. However, there is a tool called WinToUSB that can essentially do the same thing, no matter what version of Windows has. Here’s how it works.

(Note that this is different from the Windows installation from a USB drive, allowing you to install Windows on a computer that does not have a unit CD.AquĆ, really we install Windows on a USB stick to we can run from a drive on a computer that you want and take it for troubleshooting, remote working, etc. If you are a Mac user, check out this post for more information on how to do it with OS X.)

What you’ll need (and what you get)

You only need a few simple things to make this work. They understand:

A Windows installation disc or ISO image. We recommend using Windows 8. Windows 8 will allow you to use your mobile installation on a computer, but Windows 7 is not as portable and can be pilot or activation problems if you use it on other computers . (If you use Windows 7, this alternative method may be preferable).
A USB key. An external hard drive is better than a flash drive because it will run much faster. USB 2.0 is enough, but if you have a USB 3.0 drive, we recommend you to use (although it will only work if you install Windows 8, not Windows 7).
WinToUSB. Such is the simple program that will guide you through the installation process.
As you can see, there are some caveats. We tested this with Windows 8.1 in a USB 2.0 external hard drive, and the results were quite satisfactory. He worked at a reasonable speed, automatically installed the drivers I needed and worked on multiple computers. But your mileage may vary if you try to use Windows 7 or flash drive.

Step 1: Install WinToUSB
First, download and install WinToUSB on your system as you would any other program. Note that you must be an administrator on the computer on which you install WinToUSB.

While you’re at it, search your Windows installation disc or ISO and do it, because it will need in the next step. If you do not have it, you can download it from Microsoft.

Second step: Create your handset

Then just start WinToUSB and follow their (short) wizard to create your mobile installation. There are only a few steps:

1. Select your installation media
When you start WinToUSB, you are prompted to select your ISO file or disk. Click the Browse button to select the operating system you want to install, then click Next.

2. Select your hard drive
Then you are prompted to select your hard drive and choose the system and boot partitions. You can find more about this here, but with a USB hard drive should be able to select the first partition as a system and the second partition as a boot, as shown above. Make sure the disk is formatted in NTFS.

3. Start the installation
When you click Next, begin the installation. I thought it only took half an hour, although your mileage may vary depending on the speed of your hard drive.

Step Three: Start from your handset
Here! In fact, it is a very quick and easy process, and when finished, you can start to run your portable installation on a computer that you want. To do this, simply connect, restart the computer and boot from the drive as if it were a CD or flash drive (in my computer, it meant pressure F11 at startup and choose the unit from a listing).

The first time you start, install the necessary drivers and take some time to start, after which you can configure your machine as if it were a new PC with Windows 8. You might have to manually adjust things like the resolution of screen, but once you’re done, you can close, move it to another computer and run from there. You can go through the controller of the installation step in every new computer (which means it will take some time to boot), but I find that the movements between my PC fine. Have fun!
