How it works: Once you have installed each Jiffy Jiffy YouTube video that will control just below the description. Just enter the start and end in the boxes and the appropriate action to cut the video into a GIF file, and return a Imgur link that you can copy and paste it wherever you want! Note: this particular method may seem quite horrible, but it is quick and easy.

It is also regularly updated (although the update mechanism is a little weird, so it is likely to have to redo your shortcuts whenever you get a new version).

How it works: Giffing tool creates GIF files by recording your screen in a selected area. These are the basic steps once you’re running under:

Get the video you want to make a GIF list. It may be a small pad at the beginning and the end, but not much. More recording, more quality.
Click the “New” button in the tool Giffing.
Select a rectangular area of the screen to record.
Press play on the video.
When you have captured the entire clip, press Esc.
In the timeline above, by dragging the green and red at the beginning and at the end (respectively) of the action you want to capture handles.
(Optional): Use the text tools and effects to add titles or convert to grayscale.
Once you are satisfied, click the disk icon to save the GIF.
Giffing tool lets you adjust the size and quality settings. If you want to upload to Imgur, you must get your GIF less than 2 MB for free accounts, so this is the best time to tweak it until it below the limit.

Who should attend: Users of Windows, Mac and Linux do not want to pay big money for Photoshop.

How it works: To make the GIF with GIMP, you will need two files GIMP itself and animation software GIMP (GIMP or GAP, for those who like recursive acronyms). You can also find a version of Windows binary pre-compiled 2.6 GAP here.

First, you need a video file of the scene you want to make a GIF, preferably in MP4 format, although most formats that VLC can play work (MKV cause some artifacting that could be difficult to work around, though).

Under Display, select “Advanced Controls”.
Place the playhead to 5-10 seconds before the action you want to save.
Press the red record button.
Press play on the video.
When you have finished recording the action, press the record button.
You now have a clip containing only the desired action in the video library!

Guarantee “infinite loop” is checked. Click “Export”.
And you are ready! This method may take a little extra work simply because of the unknown, the GIMP interface can be a bit boring, but if you’re on a Mac or Linux computer, GIMP is on your side.

You will also need to acquire their own video files (MP4 is a good format to work with). Note: we deal with how to make a GIF, but the handling of animations is a world in itself. This video will give you a decent primer on how it works, but for now we’ll just have to deal with the creation of GIF base.
