The beginning

When playing poker Texas Hold’em, each player receives two cards face down – these are called your hole cards ”. Then there is a round of betting where you can check, bet or fold. This stage of the game is known as pre-flop and what you should do depends on those hole cards or starting the hand.

When all the betting is over three common cards are dealt face up in the center of the table. This is called the flop.



After this there is another round of betting, then a fourth community card – the turn – is dealt.

The turn

There is another round of betting, then a final shared card – called the river – and a final round of betting.

The river

For example, if you have 9-9 cards are shared 9-9-A-5-2 has four of its kind. If the cards were shared J-Q-K-7-2 you only have two nines.

Sometimes the best hand of Texas Hold’em is made by the five shared cards on their own. If they were 10-10-10-10-A and 9-9 had their hole cards do not play as there is a kind of four of the highest value already showing.
