Starting a Jewellery Business
Knowing how to make jewelry is not enough – you need to know how to sell their parts, too.
As a jewelry designer, you can make your songs from scratch, if you have the tools and training to do things like Murano and design, or you can buy your bills and other documents with a provider. Any good book on jewelry design include a list of suppliers, many of which can also be found online. You can also choose the type of design you want to specialize in jewelry, such as earrings, rings, necklaces, bags or a combination of specialties. In your case, I will assume that you do a combination of models jewelry and beaded flowers.
It seems that you have the talent and the tools to create these pieces as he is apparently willing to sell. This brings me to my next point: You must be able to market and sell their creations. There are several ways to do this:
Think of a creative name for your business. Take your time with this – you need to effectively convey the message you want to convey about your company. You must also make sure that your desired name is not already taken. Check with the US Patent and Trademark Office; your state office of the secretary of state (most of them have websites); and even a lawyer, who can search by name for you.
Before finalizing your name, check and see if it is available as a domain name. This is important because you want to be able to create a website, with or without e-commerce capabilities, to display their products. If you are not familiar with web design and creation, you can learn the skills themselves or ask for help from someone who knows how to create websites. creating web pages is fairly simple if you have a decent software such as Microsoft FrontPage. You should also consider getting a digital camera so you can download images to your website.
Create marketing materials. Most important here are the cards that can be distributed to your friends and family and local businesses, as well as trade shows and craft fairs. Make sure your Web site and e-mail address is included in your business card.
These are marketing basics to help you get started. Now let’s talk money. Initial costs can be quite low – probably $ 500 to $ 1,000, or even less if you already have everything you need to start. You can expect to earn $ 10,000 to $ 250,000 per year, depending on the amount of coins that churn, however desirable they are and aggressively market their products.
When you’re ready to start selling aggressively, you can do several things to start your sales: home games, selling at craft fairs, selling directly to retailers and wholesalers and sales representatives, and so after. You can find gifts replays fairs – call your Chamber of Commerce, read the industry publications and check with places like the National Association of Craft to find these shows.
As to how legally start, check with your city and county of necessary licenses and permits and ensure that it is zoned to operate a home business. You must also register your business with the Secretary of State and prepare all necessary tax forms. In general, cities have much information on what to do to start legally, and that regulations vary considerably from one place to another, it is best to start with your city. You can also check with your local Chamber of Commerce, Center for Development of small businesses and the SBA office.
Finally, develop their skills. Take classes in craft stores and community centers, and if you decide to go to college (which I recommend), it takes classes there too (the two types of jewelry classes and business). Owning a business is a continuous learning process – to take advantage of resources that will help you grow your business year after year.
